Lange

Lange’s stunning second album is due for release on July 5th 2010 with an exclusive Itunes pre-release on June 27th! >

For the past 2 weeks, Lange’s first single from the album, ‘Live Forever’ has been the biggest selling trance record on Beatport, with all 3 mixes making the top 10 together and taking number 1 and 2 spots! Lange now presents his second single Strong Believer, with the launch of a stunning video on his LANGETV Youtube channel. Make sure you visit www.youtube.com/langetv to check out this huge trancer alongside the arousing video by stoptime341!

From June – December 2010, Lange is going to be trekking the globe with his sensational Harmonic Motion album tour. The events will be an audio visual experience with bespoke visuals, an extended set from the man himself plus, on certain events, the chance to see performances from some of leading vocalists in scene.

In the meantime, a few words have passed from the lips (or in this case keyboard) of Lange and ClubAntix had the chance to have a chat with him about life, music and all things porn.

What is next on the agenda after your album release?
My ‘Harmonic Motion’ album is out on July 5th (27th June pre-release on itunes) and there will be a number of single releases from the Album over the coming months. I’ll be touring worldwide doing some special launch parties until the end of the year. I have some other projects lined up, but it’s too early to announce anything else yet! If you want to check the album minisite out.... www.djlange.com It’s really nicely designed!

It was only recently your b’day *insert b’day hug* – what did you want and did you get it?
It’s been so hectic recently and i’ve been away touring, so all I wanted was a couple of days off at Home with my Girlfriend. I got it!

Did you ever think this is what you’d be doing for a living?
No! From the age of 16 I wanted to be a sound Engineer, then i quickly realised i wanted to create the music myself, writing and producing. After University I decided I wanted to somehow make a career in this industry. I got my lucky break a few years later and had some early club and chart hits. Even at that stage though i never suspected i would now be travelling the world DJing every weekend! I still feel very lucky to be doing this.

What’s your secret for making so many hits?
I don’t know! You never know for sure what will be a hit. I’ve never been one to ‘chase’ a hit either. I just make what i feel like making.

Do you think it’s your good looks that have helped you achieve this?
Ha! I definitely don’t think so.

When away from music, who is Stuart Langelaan?
There’s not really any ‘away from music’ Stuart Langelaan, it’s a lifestyle, not a job. In fact i probably am classed as a workaholic, but i think most of us DJ/producers are the same with this. When i get chance I do try to grab a slice of silence, escaping to the countryside! I’m very interested in Science too, a bit of a geek reading about the latest discoveries on my travels.

Is anyone ever allowed to call you Disco Stu, in honour of The Simpsons character?
No one’s called me that (yet). Have to say i don’t think i’ve seen him in an episode myself.

Most random thing to happen while playing a set?
There have been quite a few, one i remember was when i was playing at a big festival... I noticed everyone in and around the DJ booth had suddenly disappeared from the area. 5 minutes later they came back telling me they’d been told ‘someone’s got a gun!’ Turned out it was a false alarm, but nice of them to run off and leave me there!

When next in Australia, are there any tourist adventures you’d like to do (if you didn’t do them last time)?
The Great Barrier Reef.

Why did you want to be a DJ / Producer? (Was it the free entry to clubs? Drinks? Girls?)
No, it wasn’t any of those perfectly acceptable reasons ;) I started DJing quite a few years after becoming a producer. It seemed the logical next step with my tunes being played in all the clubs that i should go in and play them myself!

It’s great meeting the clubbers, and seeing so much of the world on my travels (although often the stops in cities can be so short and i just see the airport, a hotel, a restaurant, and the club), it sure beats working non-stop in the studio all week.

Quick ones:
  1. Someone else’s track you wish you’d made? There are so many. Hans Zimmer – Gladiator soundtrack.
  2. Boxers or Briefs? Briefs
  3. Cats or Dogs? Dogs
  4. Mac or PC? PC
  5. Coke or Pepsi? Full fat Coke
  6. Manual or automatic? Manual
  7. Music to me is indescribable
  8. Sport to me is something I should probably partake in.
  9. My last meal would be a full English breakfast.
  10. When / if I grow up I plan to be a Pornstar

A few other questions from around the globe:

Q: Lange can you describe the sounds of your new album “Harmonic Motion“ what’s been different about this album journey for you?
The album is quite a mixed variety of sounds but if anything, it’s much more trancey than my first album ‚‘Better Late Than Never‘. It is primarily grooved Trance with some tracks pulling in electro / classical / techno / downtempo /Indie rock / 80s influences.

Q: We can see that the tracklist contained many featuring vocalists from across the genres. Is the Lange style now more vocal-trance-electro-progressive or we can await also several experiments?
The album is split 50/50 between instrumental and vocal tracks. I wanted to ensure I worked with the best vocalists and the key thing for me was that their styles are different, inspiring me to produce music in different directions. There are a couple of ‘experimental’ tracks on the album, one being ‘Angel’ with vocals from ‘The Hall Of Mirrors’. The vocals are very unique, and exactly what I was looking for to create some interesting direction changes on the album.

Like with my first album’ Better Late Than Never’, I’ve tried to make something worth listening to at home as well as including many club tracks.

Q: Your new single and the first release from your new album ‘Harmonic Motion’ is called ‘Live Forever’ and features one of Trance’s best known singers - Emma Hewitt. With ‘Live Forever’ sat at #1 in the Beatport Trance Chart for the last couple of weeks did you realise how big the track was when you wrote it?
I was pleased with the track when I’d finished it and Emma’s vocals are really special. It was actually one of the first tracks I finished for the album and I’ve been spinning it in live shows for quite some time now. I had a feeling from reactions on the dancefloor that it might do well, but of course you never know! – it’s always a pleasant surprise when both your peers and the clubbers show their approval for your music.

Q: ‘Harmonic Motion’ features a curiously titled track ‘Wie Komme Ich Am Besten Zum Bahnhof Bitte’ which we’ve roughly translated as ‘How is Best to Get to Bahnhof’. What’s story behind this?
I studied German for a year at school, and this is the only full phrase that ever stuck in my head; in English it translates to ‘how can i get to the train station’. The track itself is quite driving and monotonous and it builds and builds. For some reason it sparked a vision of a train hurtling through the studio!

Q: The album is also supported by some stunningly beautiful visuals! What is the idea behind this and will they be carried into your live shows as well?
The concept for the album cover artwork came from the title. A basic idea of circles was built on by our graphic designer and 3D modeler. Yes, we have commissioned visuals for the tour, and they have turned out really well! It’s great when you get the chance to work with so many artistic people in bringing a project together!
